Energy and Water Systems Integration
Energy production from renewable energy sources will be the focus of this WP. Urban and rural specificity should be addressed in order to reach a high level of integration. The renewable energy sources to be considered will be: solar, eolic, and micro-hydric. Energy retrieve from the water system will require the development of adapted systems. The WP research will cover the following items: solar energy production; eolic energy production;. Energy system integration with energy storage in the water system. Finally, this work package also will deal with micro-hydric energy production.
Eolic renewable energy production
The production of energy from wind will be under research in this WT. Specific details concerning urban and rural application such as wind direction, velocity and unpredictability will be addressed applying proper design geometries and power electronic drivers and converters.
Solar renewable energy production
Solar energy is a consolidated technology. However, it should be adapted to be integrated with the water system. Specific details on implementation inside urban and rural areas will be observed.
Energy storage in water systems
The water system has the capacity to store electric energy as potential energy. Research about how to increase storage efficiency and also how to increase the storage capacity will receive the main attention from this WP.
Energy production from micro-hydric
The operation of micro-hydric system together white the water systems will allows the connections of the research work developer in the previous WTs of this WP. This task will research about energy production from micro-hydric systems observing maximum efficiency and minimum impact in the water system operation.
